Seth Godin got us moving today.

October 25th, 2007 mike Comments off

Seth points out in his blog post today titled I can’t afford it that most users can in fact afford it, you’re just not telling your story correctly.

We penguins have stopped what we’re doing to work on our story. We’re going to make sure it best reflects us and what we can do for you.

I know it sounds like a lot of “we” and “us”, but in order to help you best, we need to work on we and us for half a day.

Ubuntu 7.10 Laptop Upgrade

October 18th, 2007 mike Comments

I just upgraded my IBM T41 to Ubuntu 7.10 by doing:

update-manager -c

from the command line. This forces a dist-upgrade check and runs through a pretty slick upgrader. 20 mins and 1 reboot later and she’s back and running without any issues at all.

Very sweet. I love it when things just work.

Fredericksburg Slashdot Anniversary Party

October 5th, 2007 mike Comments off

This month, Slashdot turns ten(like 10). I’m user number 12353 which is pretty early on the nerd-o-meter. I used to be an avid reader, but my readership has waned of late. “Back in the day” (think 1999) it was not uncommon for me to check Slashdot every 10 minutes to see what news had broken.

The slashdot format was one truly innovative when it was launched and it helped usher in the era of user interaction on the internet.

Anyway, some people (me included) are doing an anniversary party on Oct 23. Signup and details are here.
